Recommendations for Change
- # 71 |
These two classes require the rider to wear pants. There are many riders whose religion does not allow the women to wear pants. In other events (including the APHA shows and the real fox hunt events), they are allowing women to wear long, spilt skirts because of this religious issue. I am proposing the following change:
1. Currently the rules for 148 states---2nd sentence: However, riders should wear hunt coats of traditional hunt seat style and conservative color, breeches or jodhpurs......
Proposal: However, riders should wear hunt coats of traditional hunt style and conservative color, breeches, jodhpurs or long, ankle-length riding skirts.......
2. Currently the rules for 148 states---2nd sentence: Western hats, pants and boots in stock type halter......
Proposal: Western hats, pants or long, ankle-length riding skirts and boots in stock type halter........... |

Justification and impact if rule is not changed |
| Due to religous reasons, some female members can not wear pants. They wear long-ankle length riding skirts. These two "pants" rules prevents these women from competing in NASMA classes. The long, ankle length spilt skirt is tradional for western riding, side-saddle and fox hunting (English classes). Other organizations have opened up these classes to these rule changes and NASMA should too. Local, non-NASMA mule shows are allowing these changes. I have female friends that love to ride mules with me-- but can not compete because of these two rules. These two "pants" rules need to be changed. |
